Fed’s Waller: don’t want to ‘overdo’ rate hikes

Author of the article:

Federal Reserve governor Christopher

Waller said on Thursday that the uglier-than-expected inflation

readings for June showing prices rose 9.1% anchored his

expectation for a 75-basis-point rate hike, not the 100-basis

point rate hike that traders currently expect.

“You don’t want to, really, overdo the rate hikes,” Waller

said at the Rocky Mountain economic summit, adding that a

75-basis point rate hike is “huge.” While he will “lean into” a

bigger rate hike if data before the next meeting show demand is

“really strong,” he said, “don’t say because you are not going

to 100 you are not doing your job.”
